A brief history of Incarnation Penfield

The Episcopal Church is that community of Christians who trace their roots to English settlers who arrived in America and founded Church of England congregations. The Protestant Episcopal Church was organized after the War of Independance. Samuel Seabury was consecrated as the first Bishop of the Episcopal Church of America in 1784.

Anglicans are Christians who worship in accordance to some authorized edition of the Book of Common Prayer. We are bound together by liturgy, rather than a doctrinal emphasis. Our life of prayer shapes our beliefs and behaviors.

Penfield residents founded the Church of the Incarnation in 1957, and we spent our first years worshipping in the Penfield American Legion Hall Braman Post. The cornerstone for our church building was laid in February of 1959, and the first service was on Christmas Eve that same year. Our church building was dedicated in January 1960. Through the years, our Parish has prided itself on being a warm and inclusive faith community.
